PRECISION PRAYING Peggy Kannaday Growth Chart/Fill in bars with color when goal is reached PRECISION PRAYING Peggy Kannaday (1,557) In the beginning God told man to be fruitful and multiply in the Old Testament. Genesis 1:28, "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." In the New Testament, God reiterates the importance of bearing fruit for the Christian. Mark 4:20, "And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred." We bear fruit by abiding in the vine, Jesus Christ. John 15:4, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me." Prayer is an excellent way to "abide in the Vine, Jesus Christ". The Lord wants to make His House a House of Prayer for all people. The Old Testament states, Isaiah 56:7, "Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people." The New Testament says, Mark 11:17, "And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves." A new way of praying in this new millennium came to me as I was pondering about the great power and privilege that we Christians have been given through prayer. When I was working on my master's degree, I was required to learn a process called, "precision teaching". It was a method of teaching where you recorded the progress of the student continually. I realized that to use this same method with prayer would bring new motivation, enthusiasm and excitement in our prayer life. Prayer is necessary in order to have wonderful communication with God, and it is the way that God has provided for the Lord Jesus Christ to have dominion upon this earth and in His church by way of our prayers. Through our prayers, we can bring His Kingdom, His righteousness and His will into being wherever we go. Jesus Christ, through His blood sacrifice on the cross, has been given all authority over the universe and the church, and we have been given this authority to use through prayer. We can bind what is already bound in heaven (hatred, strife, confusion, death, sickness, violence, etc.), and we can loose what is loosed in heaven (love, joy, peace, health, kindness, a strong mind, etc.) through our prayers. When we pray in unison with the will and way of God found in His Word, then we have the tremendous power of agreement with almighty God. We can then pray with confidence and faith knowing that we are praying according to His will. Jesus taught us how to pray, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven". When we pray "in the Name of Jesus Christ" from a sincere heart, it brings all that the Lord Jesus Christ is and has accomplished on the cross into our prayers. It is a faith-builder as we conclude with "in the Name of Jesus Christ" because it puts the King of kings and Lord of lords' seal on the prayer that is according to His will. Precision praying can be a way that we can focus on the Lord's will for His church, and in our lives, and then we can record the results by way of a bar graph or other type of visual aide. Precision praying can help us to keep focused on the goal, and it will keep us motivated anticipating the victorious results. We chart or graph our starting point, and then we record the positive increments of improvement toward our goal. HOW CAN PRECISION PRAYING HELP ME PRAYER MORE EFFECTIVELY? 1.) It focuses your prayer points so that you have a clear-cut goal. 2.) It keeps you motivated by requiring that you acknowledge when each goal level has been reached. 3.) God receives the glory as you continue in prayer over a period of time. 4.) It gives an accurate and permanent representation of the goals that have been reached to date. We can praise the Lord over what He has done and is doing, and this will also increase our faith. 5.) Jesus spoke about His Kingdom coming on this earth, and that is what He wants to accomplish through our faith-filled prayers. When we record His goals and the mighty work that He has accomplished; it brings His great love, goodness and mercy to the forefront. 6.) Our priority is to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and this is one way to accomplish this goal in a practical way through precision praying. HOW CAN I DO PRECISION PRAYING? 1.) By hand or by computer make a simple bar graph and the starting bar will be your current level. Charts or graphs are used as they are very easy to read and understand at a glance. For example, you have a small group of members in your church or home cell group (which is a small church), and you want more fruit. The Bible says that we are to multiply, and so that should be our goal. We should bear fruit 30, 60 and 100 fold, and we should bear the fruit of the Holy spirit growing in like manner. 2.) Now, you can use the Biblical progression of 30, 60 and 100 to start, and you can place 100 members as your final goal for that particular graph. Set your goals as the Lord leads you as they should be His goals. In short, His goals should be our goals as well. 3.) When each goal is reached (30, 60 and 100) you put the date under the bar, and you can color in the bar for visual recognition. 4.) After you reach the goal of, i.e. 100; you can keep the graph up on the bulletin board or wall for times of praise and thanksgiving as you continue to thank God for the victory that has been already won, and that will also increase your faith in praying for your future goals. 5.) This method encourages the prayer partners to continue on in faith and patience until they reach each goal. REQUIREMENTS FOR GOAL-SETTING: 1.) The goals should be brought about through prayer. 2.) The goals must coincide with the Spirit and commandments found in the Word of God. 3.) The goals must be shared with all of the prayer partners, and the prayer partners need to be in agreement with the goals. If the goals are of God; the Holy Spirit will bring the agreement between the prayer partners. 4.) The most powerful, authoritative and effective prayer is the prayer that is in agreement and in one accord with all the praying parties, and the prayer that is in agreement with the will and Word of God. With this type of prayer the Lord can work His mighty work upon this earth in these last days. 5.) The Prayer Leader must record each progressive goal as it is reached, and it that information needs to be shared with all the prayer partners. The prayer partners can pray together as a group, but they can also pray separately but in total agreement with the goals. 6.) Sample Goals: A. New Converts B. Revival (measure Spiritual life on a scale from 1 to 10) C. More fervent prayer warriors needed. (3, 6, and 10) or (30, 60, and 100) or (300, 600, and 1,000), etc. D. Five-fold ministers needed according to Eph. 4:11. E. More fruit needed in the lives of the members (love, joy, peace, etc.) F. More praise and worship ministers. G. More members that participate in the work of the ministry. H. More trainers for the work of the ministry. I. More laborers for the harvest PROGRESS AND BENEFITS FOUND IN PRAYER: 1.) Prayer partners can pray for one goal or several goals each day. 2.) Prayer is coming into agreement with God's will (Thy Kingdom come, and then coming into agreement with the goal set for your group). 3.) Prayer is beneficial for the church, the group, the city, the country and for all people involved. It changes the person praying in a wonderful way as it brings the life of God into the person's life. In short, prayer changes everything! 4.) Prayer is the key to Spiritual growth in the individual, in the church, the city and the country. 5.) Prayer brings the Kingdom of God into every situation that is prayed for. It ignites faith, and faith activates the power of the Holy Spirit in the situation. God desires to heal our hearts, our homes and our lands, but we must come to Him in prayer. 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
